Twigs Restaurant – Blowing Rock, NC

After checking in to our Chetola Resort condo and getting settled in our first stop in Blowing Rock is Twigs Restaurant. Having been to Blowing Rock multiple times and never having tried it we knew we had to go.

Twigs is located at 7956 Valley Blvd a short distance from downtown Blowing Rock. Their website states the restaurant has been run by two brothers, David and Doug Beach since August 2000. We had reservations a busy Friday night and were shown to our table straight away by very attentive staff.

There were four of us for dinner this evening and while all of the appetizers sounded good we settled on Peach BBQ’d Duck Tenders and Oyster Orleanaise. The duck tenders came with goat cheese crumble on top and were absolutely delicious. The oysters were flash fried and served with an absolutely stunning lobster cream sauce. We found ourselves enjoying both appetizers thoroughly.

For my main dish I split the generous portion of the Filet Mignon with my friend, for a $10 split plate fee (ugh). The filet was served with gorgonzola butter, tobacco onions, port wine demi-glace, parsnip puree, wilted spinach, and smashed new potatoes. The filet was cooked to perfection and the dish was amazing. This particular evening there was a dry aged ribeye special with fingerling potatoes and asparagus which my husband ordered. Our other friend ordered the low country shrimp and andouille sausage served over stone ground grits with okra, piquillo peppers, and a lobster cream sauce.

All of our main courses were plated beautifully and tasted exquisite. Unfortunately for all of us the main dishes were quite filling leaving us with no room to even attempt a dessert. The only downside was the $10 split plate fee but that is hardly unique to this restaurant and I understand the purpose.

Overall our first time at Twigs was everything we could have hoped for. The service and staff were exceptional and the food was delicious. I would certainly recommend you check it out the next time you find yourself in Blowing Rock, NC.
